Ingredients

Gather everything before you start cooking.

Fish

  • 1½ lb firm white fish fillets (like cod or tilapia)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ⅛ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Lime Crema

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • ¼ tsp salt

Slaw

  • 3 cups coleslaw mix (green and red cabbage, carrots)
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For Serving

  • 8-12 small corn or flour tortillas
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 limes, cut into wedges

Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Slaw

In a medium bowl, combine the coleslaw mix, 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice, 1 tablespoon olive oil, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Toss to combine and set aside to let the flavors meld while you prepare the rest of the meal.

    ~5 min

  2. 2

    Make the Lime Crema

In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice, minced garlic, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro, and ¼ teaspoon salt until smooth. Cover and refrigerate until serving.

    ~3 min

  3. 3

    Season the Fish

Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, combine the chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly over both sides of the fish fillets.

    ~3 min

  4. 4

    Cook the Fish

Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned fish fillets. Cook for 3-5 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).

    ~8 min

  5. 5

    Warm the Tortillas

While the fish is cooking, warm the tortillas according to package directions in a separate dry skillet, microwave, or oven. Keep them warm wrapped in a clean kitchen towel.

    ~3 min

  6. 6

    Assemble the Tacos

Flake the cooked fish into bite-sized pieces. Assemble the tacos by placing a portion of flaked fish into each warm tortilla. Top with a generous spoonful of slaw, a drizzle of lime crema, and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro. Serve immediately with extra lime wedges on the side.
